Preparing for birth

My Birth Preparation: black and white picture of a baby ultrasound

“Before the My Birth Preparation course started, I felt lost, worried and incapable. I no longer fear the unknown. Now I feel confident, relaxed and empowered.

I am more at peace with what will happen on the day will be right for me and my baby!”

Nicola, UK

Preparing for birth, then becoming a parent can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time. There is so much to think about, to prepare and plan for. Everyone is keen to offer advice whether you ask for it or not!

Choose our “My Birth Preparation” support and you will grow in head and heart knowledge of yourself, pregnancy, types of birth, early days parenting and your birth partner(s). Develop the confidence you need to navigate the unknown!

Your “My Birth Preparation” support will:

  • Increase your confidence and belief in your ability to give birth
  • Deal with fears and help you find freedom from fear or anxiety
  • Prepare you for after the birth learning how to care for yourself and together as a family.

In every session you will:

  • Learn a different coping technique for pregnancy, labour, birth or parenting, including birth positions hypnobirthing, breathing and visualisation techniques
  • Practice relaxation techniques to see what works for you
  • Have time to respond and talk about what you are discovering
  • Be able to address any anxiety and fears you have
  • Be offered take home strategies to increase your confidence in everyday life.

My Birth Preparation themes include:

  • The Stories We Tell Ourselves About Birth: Notice the amount of information you have already collected about birth and how it affects your preparation now. Choose what you want to hold on to going forward.
  • Pregnancy – Patient or Parent: Understand your amazing body and learn to navigate the roles you may be invited to play as patient and parent. This session includes how to get the best from the NHS system in the UK.
  • Fantasies, Fears and Reframing Birth: Acknowledge your hopes and preferences for birth and deal with your birth fears.
  • Being Powerful in Birth 1 and 2: Enjoy learning a wide range of practical strategies to navigate the surprises that birth and parenting can bring. Create your own toolkit including family centred caesarean, birthing positions, home birth, water birth and how to do the “next best thing” when faced with the unexpected.
  • Ready for Anything: Prepare for after birth, the fourth trimester, feeding, choosing your support network, managing visitors and caring for each other’s needs as a new family. This can include your older child if you have one.
